About

Elargo is a text-based roleplaying game. You make your own character up, from scratch, and then just jump in to any of the chatrooms available.

Elargo takes place in a future where earth has been given a new name, Yantha. The land area is significantly reduced, caused by the global warming that took place quite a long time ago. The world has only two continents; Taman and Garo. They lay very close to eachother but the climate is very different. Taman, which lies in west has a tropical weather. Garo lies in east and has has a hard, hot and dry weather. Elargo lies in the west parts of Garo, near the coast.

Yantha is inhabited mostly by humans, but there is also other species that triws to survive in the hard life of Yantha (see the list of races). The general opinion about the immigration from outer space is hostile. They think that there is allready enough inhabitants on Yantha as it is and they need to survive by their own, not support a whole new population.

Petrol fuel and oil of any kind has been stated as illegal. Everything is powered by electricity. Though there is some smugglers that secretly pump the last out of the remaining oilfunds and trade it for huge amounts of money.

What is a text-based roleplaying game?

A text-based roleplaying game is a game played simply by writing you characters actions.

The most common way to write is in third-person view (which means "he" or "she") and not in first as "me".

What you character DOES is written in between stars (**). For example: *He open the door to the pub and steps in*.

What you character SAYS is written outside the **. For example:
*He open the door to the pub and steps in* Hey, you behind the desk, can I get something to drink?

Whispering
If you want to whisper with your character, you just write it inside the ** that the character whispers. It is up to the recieving player to read this and not let his character hear it all across the room.
For example: *Unaahr leans forward and whispers* Have you seen that dog in the corner over there?

Messagelength
The length of the message is all up to you, though it is preferable to write a long message that you've thought through than spamming a lot of short messages that you havent really thought of.

Intro
The intro is the first message, where you describe the first impression you character gives. It doesnt have to be long, as long as it give people something to play on. A common misstake is to describe to much, all the way down to the color of his shoelaces and that the text on his weapon isnt really showing. Instead you should think what the viewer sees in a quick look. You can describe finer when you're in game, like what the reciever sees if it comes closer your character.

Creating you character

Your Character
It is not hard to create your own character. There is no parts that it has to contain, and you can write the background before or let it just develop as you play, just like you want. Create as many characters as you want. Create just like you want is something you can't do though. It is important that your character stick to the race information. Remember that it is often more fun to not have a perfect character that can do everything, is astonishing beutiful and so on. Make it uniqe. This leaves the question, "So, where do I create my character?". The answer is, in your head. You dont register your character on the site (only the characters name on SpinChat if you want). Most people write a description of their character and save it in a textfile so they remember, or they write an intro that they can use everytime they log in.

Playable Characters

Everything you can come up with, which race is in the list of races.
The only exception is that the characters like the pubowner Heyla and such characters are not playable. Though it is totally okay to pretend like they have been there and has been seen. You can not make up your own species all of a sudden. You must play after the list of races.

Professions
There is no predecided professions that you can choose from, only your imagination limits it. Think of what professions there is in real life and take a pick. Also, it has came up some new professions in Yantha that is not in real life, like the U.S.F soldiers or waitress/waiter in Hayla's Pub (see explanations of the chatrooms for more info about the U.S.F).

Rules

1. Fight rules

The fight rules are very simple.
A. Avoid fights if it isn’t absolutely necessary. A fight can indeed be good roleplaying, but it is often better or just as good to let it go and not let your character draw his weapons. Respect your opponent, even if you think fights are fun, your opponent might not. Give them opportunities to escape! If it comes to a fight anyway, there is some thing you need to keep in mind.

B. The one that TAKES a hit decides if it hits or not. For example: A: *Swings his fist against Bs cheek* * B: *The fist smacks hard into his face and he feel dizzy.*

C. Do not over-use the rule above! It is boring for everyone that play against a character that allways avoid hits and shots, or if they never get hurt. Remember that it is often just as fun when your character loses as when it wins, as long as it’s good roleplaying.

D. Play realistic on the basis of what your role resonably can do.

2. Things you should not do:

A. Do not unprovoked start fights with people. Even if your character is a real troublemaker, you have to have some sense of when it is fun or just ruining the game for others.

B.
Do not play out sexcenes openly. Believe us, this rule exists for a reason. Everyone should be able to play on the chat, irrespective of age. Do you want to play C6 or something similar, do it somewhere else. Do you want to play C6 or something similar, do it somewhere else.

C. Do not name your character after famous creations from e.g books and movies. Names like Frodo, Gandalf, Belgarion and Rincewind is totally forbidden.

D. Do not steal someone elses character name. This concern ofcourse made up names; on the other hand if two characters accedently is named Nick, James or Thomas, it is only a problem if people mix you up.

E. Do not send off-messaged in the gamechats. Do you want to talk about something beside the game, go to the offchat.

3. Read the raceinformation.

They exist, and others count on you to play after them.

4. Have patience.

All characters isn’t successful from the very start. You sometimes have to change them or let them change in-game. However, if you fel like your human is more like a Waden, create a new character instead of changing your old one.

Have patience with the beginners on the chat. Everyone is a unexperienced in the beginning, evryone makes misstakes.
As a beginner; have patience with the more experienced players. There is plots that has been played several years back, and just because you and your character don’t succeed to get in the middle of them the first hour doesn’t mean you’ll never experience fun roleplaying.

5. Other

We play in realtime in the chats. One day in your life = one day in your characters life. If your character for example is pregnant, it takes for a human character approximately nine months before they have birth. Noone will be annoyed if you shorten it down to seven, but people will be annoyed if you shorten it down to a week.

With all of this said, we wish you a good time roleplaying on Elargo!
